So the Heart Grows Fonder
Poem Inspired by the Prompt Steps by Ana-Maria Schweitzer

I ran away,
sped past a number of Jersey cities
to make it to 1000 miles past
the restaurant parking lot
where we last met.
We are souls separated
within the multiverse;
we’re far in distance,
with lives disjointed
in more ways than one.
My life and I have changed so much.
Still I find,
I traveled so far
just to remain
in love with you.

This poem was too long for Chalkboard, but it’s what was born when I saw the word “Steps”. The original poem that inspired the prompt talked about traveling a city, so travel in a literal sense. My poem combines some element of that, but also adds some hyperbole and metaphorical travel.
Although I was unable to submit this time around, I invite Kathy Jacobs and Harper Thorpe and anyone else involved in the Chalkboard publication to read this if they’re interested.
